Photo-series: Trip to Japan (Travel Journal)

The saying goes “If you want to get busy, book a trip” and as a business owner, I now feel that. It felt like as soon as my wife and I booked our much needed getaway, every brand in NYC needed our video production services.

That’s a good problem to have of course, and the shoots were executed regardless. Over the course of the past month, we took on The Halal Guys as a recurring client, along with the architecture firm Rojas AP. We also shot a multi video campaign for Fondation Botnar, documenting their National Youth Summit.

Lastly, we have two incredible opportunities on the horizon — one is the opportunity to shoot for New York Philharmonic on an ongoing basis (which is huge!), and the other is a major campaign for John F Kennedy airport, who will commission us to make short films to appear on huge screens in their new terminal.

To help manage this, there were definitely some late nights trapping off the laptop in Japan, but aside from that, my goal was to be present and enjoy the country. Which we did!

The trip served two functions — first off, I got to see my brother Kyle, who plays pro basketball in Japan. Kyle’s been a pro hooper for over 13 years now, and it was surreal to see kids walking around with his jersey and fanning out over him. We hung in Nagaoka for a while to check out his games, and the city has a peaceful, serene vibe which was cool to experience.

Then, wifey and I celebrated our third wedding anniversary in Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo. For ten days, we experienced new foods, new sites and Japan’s one of a kind culture. Most importantly, wifey and I also celebrated our love.

Overall it was an awesome trip, and it provided much needed shift in perspective. Now, it’s time to get back to the gritty city and keep building the business.

What Kobe say? Job not finished.
